Misleading scan results

Post a new topicby asc on Mon Jan 14, 2008 3:45 pm

In April I had an isotope scan because of chest pain on exertion, relieved by GTN - and a strong family history of ischaemic heart disease I am on treatment for hypertension and raised cholesterol. I was sent a copy of the letter sent to my GP after my scan. It said "No significant abnormality detected." This meant that when I did get chest pain one doctor actually said "We know it's not your heart as your scan was negative." At the end of August I started getting chest pain again, including one really bad episode, and was referred back to the cardiologist He said that the scan report said "Possible reduction in perfusion in the area supplied by the LAD"

Am I right to feel angry and to regard this as having been mishandled. I feel that the GP should have been sent the report as it came, even if the consultant then recorded that in the absence of symptoms at the time this was probably of no significance.
