Increasing fequency of chest pain

Post a new topicby asc on Tue Oct 09, 2007 2:17 pm

About 18 months ago I had recurring chest pain My BP was found to be 200/110. When it was controlled I was fine for about 4 months, then had a recurrence and it was found to be poorly controlled. It went off again and whne I had a thallium test in April it was negative. About 6 weeks ago I started getting it again - normally mild, but one severe bout. The mild bouts seem to be increasing in frequency and occur more days than not.

Central chest pressure
Often radiates to neck
Usually brought on by exercise, occasionally stress
Usually stops quickly on resting, although when stress-induced can be prolonged
Relieved by GTN

Strong family history of ischaemic heart disease
Hypertension and raised cholesterol controlled by medication
Mildly raised blood sugar
Overweight (losing)
Age 61, female

One GP says it can't be cardiac because of the thallium test, another says it almost certainly is! My feeling is that it is pretty typical. I'm now waiting a cardiology appointment and probable angiogram.

Has anyone had a negative thallium scan and been proved to have significant heart disease?

It is possible, the angiogram is/will be more definitive
