Diverticulitis/ Diverticular Disease

I had my first flare of this disease less than a month after I retired. Just this past weekend, I had to be hospitalized due to a terrible attack. The pain was horrible, and I was nauseated beyond what words can describe. I have appointments with my gastro physician and surgeon this week.

I understand your pain. I had my first attack in 2000 and was in and out of the hospital receive IV antibotics...finaly had colon resection on the left (Sigmoid Colon) where I did well for about 6 weeks. Then returned to ER for extreme pain. I had an abcess from the surgery and was hospitized for IV antibotics again. I have done well until Christmas day 2007. I had a very sharp pain in my abdominal area, almost put me to my knees. I was very tied after cooking dinner and when kids went home got on the couch to rest. I was very sick, ran a fever and had severe pain. Thinking this was stomach virus or food posion there was not reason to go to ER...hate them. I was in such pain could not climb into my bed. I slept on my couch with my husband scared and slept on floor beside me. I went to the ER next day and found I had a contained perforated colon. I was being prepped for emergency surgery when my surgeon decided to try and give my IV antibotics before surgery. The infection was not the best conditions for surgery. I was in hospital for several days. Doing well for a couple of months I had another attack. I will go first week of May for colon surgery on my right side to remove dieased area. I have also been told I have cyst on my left ovary....they will remove my ovary same time. So this is how I can understand the pain. I have been told by several doctors that I am very lucky that I lived. I thought this diease was for the elderly but now know this is incorrect....I am now 48.
