Lisfranc injury or not?On July the 10th 2008 I fell from a height of about 8 feet and landed heavily on my right foot. I immediately felt a severe pain and my foot swelled. I was unable to get up. My husband phoned an ambulance and I was taken to the hospital A&E dept. After being ignored for two hours, and in considerable pain, I was given an x-ray. My foot like it was being held in a vice and yet I was told it wasn't broken and to go home and rest it for 7 days, with advice to return if it felt no better after then. I was in agony. I would rather have given birth to twins sideways to be honest. Anyway after a week I still could not move my foot, it was excrutiatingly painful and I couldn't stand at all so I went back and was basically told off by the physio for not using my foot. I was given a range of exersises to do and sent home, including that I had to learn to put weight on it and start walking. Three weeks later and it was still no better so I was referred to the physiotherapy department. I had been doing physio therapy for 9 weeks and my foot was still painful, swollen and I still can't weight bear on it. My physio has now referred me to a foot surgeon and yet no-one has told me anything. I have no diagnosis, apart from the initial one which was "soft tissue damage". Surely if it was only a sprain it would have healed by now, wouldn't still be painful and the swelling would have gone. I use ice packs and anti-inflammatories and still me foot is 2 sizes larger than my left one.
Do any of you think I could have suffered a Lisfranc injury? I have been scouring the net and all the symptoms seems to match mine. CAn anyone advise? 3 months on and the pain continues all around the top of my foot and along the outside of my big toe and along that side of my foot. Also, across the top of my foot, it feels as though it is being crushed permanently, as though it is in a vice. It is VERY painful, like a red hot poker or a volcano in my foot. I have no movement in my toes at all, it is still swollen and I can't bear any weight at all. I can not stand on my toes. I am finally going to see a podiatrist on the 21st of October. My heel and my ankle are fine. My ankle has up and down movement , although I can't rotate at all and I am able to walk, with gel heel pads in MBT trainers on my heel, as my mid-foot and toes do not then have to take any weight. I do however walk VERY slowly and with a profound limp. It is also severely painful and I can't walk far or for any length of time. I have a bump, which is almost bunion like at the bottom outside of my bigtoe, although this was not present before my accident. I've never had bunions. I also have another bump on the top of my foot, again along that outside edge, just below where my ankle meets my foot. I hope this helps give you a bit more info about my problem. I am a full time carer to my disabled husband and daughter and really don't have the time to prolong this injury. Unfortunately I am at the mercy of the UK national heath service and have to wait. I really am at the end of my tether. Thanks for your patience Jo xx
