TESTICULAR PAIN - caused by hernia

Post a new topicby livingwith on Fri Aug 17, 2007 9:48 pm

I had 3 TURP prostate operations last year. (2 in August, 1 in Dec. 2006) After the last one, I had very pronounced testicular pain in January. I detailed this to my urologist who did a urine test and examination of fluid after a “prostate massage”—(no that doesn’t involve soft music and scented candles)…He diagnosed infection and gave me a prescription.
I still had the very persistent pain, eventually so bad that I awakened in the night with it. When I again ...Read the full article

Hi livingwith,

Wow your story sound much like mine accept that I have been living with horrible testicle pain for just over a year. July 2007, I went to primary doctor for testicle pain, she suspected prostatitis - a week later I felt a ripping feeling in my right inguinal area at the site of previous hernia repair and went back and she diagnosed hernia. Went to surgeon who had repaired first hernia years ago and he basically scoffed (ego trip) at the idea that I could have a hernia where he had repaired before although the clown knew he did not use mesh and that could make it more likely to recur. So he examines and says no hernia, sends me back to my primary doc and she look baffled but takes the specialists word and goes back to prostatitis.

From there my hell was just beginning, went to a urologist who was the most inhumane doctor I had ever met. This guy made you feel like you did something wrong and that maybe if you let him bash you a bit that then he might help. I told him about the tearing feeling and how the inguinal area was sore and pushing it caused even more testicle pain and he ignored it. He said prostatitis change diet, take ibuprofen and flomax come back in six weeks. No improvement and six weeks later I went to second urologist. This guy seemed nice enough but I immediately I got the feeling that he had his set rules as to x symptoms are this and no deviation from those rules were considered. Told him about potential hernia, ripping feeling, pain in inguinal area etc. He said no hernia would not cause your symptoms, said prostatitis gave me more antibiotics, flomax, ibuprofen. Eight weeks later no improvement ad still horrible testicle pain and I was considering driving off a cliff. Went back to uro and he said okay since treatment is not working we have to consider Interstitual Cystitis (one of the most horrible diseases on the planet) and want to do a cysto with hydrodistention to verify. I reluctantly agree but keep pressing the hernia idea and he keeps ignoring. After the cysto/hydro I was in even more brutal hell pain, now I not only felt like I was kicked in the testicles but my bladder was on roaring fire and my penis felt like a flame thrower.

Well finally after being in total despair I decided to email some hernia specialists my story. All of them responded back that hernias could very well be the problem and asked me to come in. So I made an appointment with one of the top hernia specialists in the country and within 10 minutes of examining me he said that not only did I have a hernia RIGHT WHERE I SAID ALL ALONG but I also had one on the other side and on top of that an umbilical hernia. He sent me for imaging that day to confirm the hernias and the imaging doctor confirmed within minutes. The surgeon then said to me that there are many things that can cause testicle pain but when there is a inguinal hernia you can almost bet it is the cause and when there are two you can bank on it.

I'm scheduled for surgery in a few more weeks and look forward to being saved from this brutal hell I've been in for over a year now.

So guys reading this, if you have testicle pain and penis pain and you suspect hernia is involved even if it does not show force the issue make someone at least do an ultrasound.
