Do I really have to live like this the rest of my life???Hi I am a 25 years old and It has been almost a year now that I was diagnosed with IC For about two years I had pain during intercourse. I was diagnosed with IC 3 weeks ago. I have been visiting a website that has helped me cope. Maybe you are already familar with it www.ic-network.com There are forums there and you can talk with others going through the same things and get lots of education. My heart goes out to you.
Re: Do I really have to live like this the rest of my life???I can relate to a lot of your experiences with IC. The Elmiron did not work for me; I have tried numerous trips to the doctor's office to have the DMSO treatments, which only worked shortterm.
Have you tried checking your diet? I know that certain things in my diet seem to trigger an episode. The doctor also told me to limit my stress; I haven't yet figured out how to do that. When an extremely stressful life event unfolds, I find that it a prime time for the IC to flare up.

I have had it since I have been in the 5th grade I have just lived with it unitl now. I have seen my regular OBGYN for years and she could tell me nothing. I FINALLY was referred to a doctor who find what was wrong. Not only do I have IC but my urethra needed to be re-constructed. Elmerion didn't work at all for me, it actually made me 100X's worse. I now had a surgery on my uretha, and I have had two injections in my bladder, I need one final injection and he says I will be like brand new. I hope I don't have to live like this either. What I found that helps is cutting all acidic foods, soda, and caffiene OUT. Try going to a bladder specialist... I'm feeling better everyday :]
